The Great North Walk’s Lane Cove section is the serious spine of this park: commonly described as about 20 km one-way from East Ryde / Buffalo Creek contexts to Thornleigh, Grade 3, six to eight hours if you attempt the full run. Most visitors should not.

Break it into day sections. Use Discovery Parks – Lane Cove as a commercial overnight base if needed. Never bush camp inside the national park.

Pick southern or northern legs with clear car or public-transport exits. One-car parties should prefer out-and-back or carefully researched transit pairs. Tell someone your plan.

Overnight without bush camping

Discovery Parks – Lane Cove (13 Plassey Road, Macquarie Park) offers tents, vans, cabins and glamping options in public marketing. Book via Discovery Parks only. Park entry fee rules for tourist-park guests versus wider park visits should be verified officially.
